Financial and administrative records

This series provide information on the administration of the St. Regis Mission. It consists of financial records, such as invoices, expenses accounts, and financial reports. In addition, the series contains insurance policies.

Kateri Tekakwitha

The series provides information on Kateri Tekakwitha. It contains booklets on the beatification of Kateri Tekakwitha, bulletins, newspaper clippings, books, illustrated booklets, periodicals, notebooks, typescripts about the life of Kateri Tekakwitha. It also includes prayer cards and postcards illustrating Kateri, in addition to photographs of the Kateri Center in Ahkwesáhsne, photographs of the bust of Kateri, medals and a plaque at the effigy of Kateri Tekakwitha.

The fonds documents the activities of the St. Regis Mission in Ahkwesáhsne, and the relations and encounters of Jesuit priests with Kanien’kehá:ka people in the region. It contains records created, collected, and accumulated by the Jesuits in Ahkwesáhsne. The records include correspondence, books and manuscripts, pamphlets and booklets, dictionaries and lexicons, financial documents, newspaper clippings, and bulletins and records on the St. Regis church and community life. It includes photographs of Jesuit priests involved in the community and photographs of the St. Regis church. The fonds also includes Kanien’kehá:ka family photographs. The records range from 1806 to 1984.

St. Regis Mission Church and community life

The series consists of documents on the mission’s life and activities as well broader Catholic Church activities and information. It includes press and magazine clippings; newsletters, booklets, bulletins, and typescripts on the parish activities and on the region; individual and group portraits of people involved in the mission; registers of baptisms, marriages, and deaths; an engraving of Jesuit priests; correspondence, press clippings, and photographs on sports and music activities at the mission; and documents pertaining to the building of the St. Regis church.

Grammars, dictionaries, and lexicons

The series consists of grammars, dictionaries, and lexicons in Kanien’kéha, French, and English. It includes annotated lexicons in Kanien’kéha, religious scriptures translated into Kanien’kéha, French-Kanien’kéha dictionaries, English-Kanien’kéha dictionaries, language exercises and compositions, and notes on basic Kanien’kéha vocabulary. This series includes published materials as well as unpublished manuscripts, lexicons, and notes.

Correspondence, manuscripts, and journals

The series provides information on Jesuit communication networks and activities in regards to the St. Regis Mission and overall Jesuit presence in North America. The series consists of correspondence between Jesuit priests concerning social, cultural, and religious activities at St. Regis and beyond. Letters and typescripts form the majority of the series, but manuscripts, diaries, and journals testifying to the Jesuit presence in the Ahkwesáhsne region are also part of the series.
