Scope and content

The series provides information about the administration of the Holy Cross Mission’s activities in Wiikwemkoong and in different mission points on Manitoulin Island and in Northern Ontario, between 1837 and 1988. These activities are diverse and include management of personnel, schools, finances and day-to-day operations. Furthermore, the series gives information about the relations between the missionaries and the Provincial or other members of the Jesuit community, as well as with the Indigenous communities inhabiting the region, departments of the federal government and other external people or organizations.

The series is divided into eight files: Activity Planning; Jesuit Personnel; Finances; Sacramental Records and Data Collection; School Administration; Relations with the Province and the Community; Relations with Indigenous Communities; Relations with Associated Persons and Organizations. It contains originals, transcriptions and copies of diaries, schedules, personal notes and reflections of Jesuit fathers, lists and photographs of Jesuit missionaries, correspondence, statements of accounts, financial reports, fundraising pamphlets, censuses, baptismal and marriage registers, Status Animarum and other data collection records, annual and monthly mission reports and visitation memorials.
